We turned on the Astros game last night to be good little Houstonians and support the home team. We aren’t big sports watchers (thank goodness, bore me to death), so it took us a few days to notice “Oh hey! World Series? Rock!” and turn on the tube.

A commercial for the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund came on, featuring papa George Bush sitting next to Houston’s own abrasively loud Mattress Max, and I about fell out of my chair. With laughter.

No, but really, talk about bizARRE. Mattress Max has been on Houston TV for years, all my life, with his shouted furniture commercials, always claiming with a jump that “Gallery Furniture really will SAVE YOU MONEY!!!” But when he made the transition from obnoxious salesman who can’t speak in lower then a shout, to a Houstonian celebrity and icon sitting next to former presidents, I don’t know. I think my school district had him come over as a motivational speaker when I was in junior high, which I found very annoying then.
I’m not even going to go into the ridiculousness of a Bush/Clinton co-fund, ’cause WHATever. Perhaps they’ll have Chuck Norris on tonight. XP

Go ASTROS! Don’t die!
