What trademark laws? *whistles innocently*

Actually, I have a bit of a rant about that:

What is with companies whose advertisers work tirelessly to get their company’s names and logos engrained into the public’s consciousness, but then they get all huffy about people using those names and logos in their verbal, visual, and written discussions? Those officially company-owned things are aspects of DAILY LIFE, they are a part of our lives, and we are going to use them. Conglomerates should feel honored (and fiscally secure) to have such strong presences in the public mind and culture.

It reminds me of despotic kings and dictators–who won’t allow anything negative to be written about them–when companies expect to be consulted, or paid, if their names are mentioned.

I was reading a contemporary novel today, and applauded when the author talked about her characters eating Pop-Tarts and Count Chocula cereal, and didn’t bother with silly and distracting little ™ signs. Because the brands we use and the names that surround us are a part of our lives, and when we use them, we make them our own. They are ours, and not truly the property of some company, when they become a part of our anthropologic reality.

Admittedly, I’m breaking, uh, bending several trademark and copyright laws with Miss Belly here, but I’m not going to be selling prints of her, or likely drawing her again, so no harm, and more good done. If anyone has a problem with it, I suggest they get themselves a 2 lb. bag of “Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans” Jelly Bellys in “Rotten Egg”. XP

I shall happily join with Texans in politely asking for a kleenex, xeroxing everything I photocopy, and calling anything carbonated a coke, no matter what brand I’m actually going to be using.

(Don’t even get me started on character copyright and trademark issues. As an artist, that is so loaded. Superman, Harry Potter, Mr. Spock…they truly have become archetypes of our cultural superconscious, I don’t care what companies “own” them.)

I got a table for A-Kon!!! WHOOHOO! Yayayay.
If you are going, come by and get your face painted with something fun. Some of my favorites that I do are red anger tic-marks and blue sweatdrops. Visually communicate your emotion all day. :D

Still don’t have a table for Shiokazecon, which is next week, because the guy still hasn’t gotten back to me!!!! gah! I may end up just cosplaying, better work on Unohana…

I turned in my taxes on Saturday and went to jury duty (again! GOSH!) on Monday, so aren’t I just a good little citizen. :} Thankfully, I wasn’t picked this time. It still took 8 hours of tight quarters, hard benches, and me figeting because I didn’t feel it would be appropriate for me to draw while the judge was explaining the law to us. I left exhausted.

I wanted to post. Lookie, non-anime fanart!

WolvieRogue

Rough inks, way fun.

Wolvie and Rogue, brought on by discovering a recc to a great Movieverse Logan/Rogue fanfic. Awesome. Now I’m scouring archives.

I loved them in the first movie: excellent writing and acting, they had fabulous character development and chemistry. Go Hugh and Anna.

Rogue rightfully would have the biggest crush on him. In a few years, that can grow. Jean/Scott can be cute and boring together, give me movieverse Wolvie/Rogue all the way.

When I was a little tyke watching the first Xmen cartoon, I was all Gambit/Rogue. They’re not even planning on introducing him in the movies. Wah! ;_;

After a bit of poking around and begging, I’ve been able to join the Private Exchange, which is a private group of artists that do exchanges and art challenges. Way fun. XD

It’s run by Brianne, and most of the members can be found listed here.
Caeline/Fantazia was lovely and graciously sponsored me. :)

I’ve done two pieces for the exchange now, so take a look:

Joseph for Jesse

Apollo for Miredd
