I hope everyone had a fabulous Easter!
I made the Easter ham, and was rather pleased with it. ^_^ I’m an experimental cooker. I get it from my mother. But she’s most likely to put wheat or carob chips in something, while I’m more likely to put fruit in the meat dishes and go crazy with the spices.
For the ham, I sliced it, and topped it all with a can of crushed pineapple, honey, cinnamon, pepper, and vinegar, which kept it from being too sweet. :)

The only Easter egg hunt I did was the silly but addictive Gaia Hunt. And now I’m egg-bumped out.

Phantom phans and those who just like the story! I recc–
No Return by ChristineX , rated T. (ie, PG-13)
Fabulous modern retelling of Phantom of the Opera set in Southern California. Yes, it’s good. And has amazingly tangable descriptions. Wow, usually descriptions bore me out of my mind, but her’s are detailed, wonderfully used, and ground her fic solidly in reality. This is a lovely romance for all the Erik lovers out there. :)

Fanfic.net has just moved over from using the American Movie Ratings system to a new one they devised themselves. Heh. So PG-13 is now T.
Why? Oh, whatever, just a new system to have to get used to. *shrug*
I have to recommend GreenGecko’s Brighter Morning. It’s a Harry-as-a-Daddy fic, but also a unique and deeply sad amnesic Harry-fic. Wonderfully written, very detailed and straightforward, and left me with a still melancholy.
It’s mostly in the point of view of Harry’s 13 -year-old, muggle raised son, who has dealt with his father constantly losing his memory and not remembering him for all of his life. They are able to cure Harry of that in the first part of the fic, but despite of this, and the hope that is there, the sadness is still there too. Very, very well written and poignant.
I must totally rec these gorgeous Hook/Wendy vignettes by Hereswith.
In order:
By Moonlight, The Darkened Night, and All in Splinters.
Lovely, lovely, lovely. I hope she continues with more!
Oh my GOSH.
Games of Skill And Chance by Snowballjane–
The war is over, and as Severus Snape serves his last term as Potions Master at Hogwarts, he begins to heal. PG
*wibble wibble SOB* Beautiful, heart-tearing fic. Just lovely and gentle. Wonderful. Made me cry. ;_;
Harry Potter Fanfic recommends!! Yea! Because I drink up fan fiction like I drink water.

Just went and saw a little theater production of Les Miserables with the awesome Amazonian!! I have never seen this show on stage before, but I’ve had the music memorized for years. Les Mis was the first musical I got into, it is a truly fantastic musical (really, it’s an opera, but don’t tell modern audiences that. 9.9 ) If you are in the right mood, just listening to the 10th Anniversary Concert Recording can have you bawling every 15 minutes.
And the little theater group did a pretty good job. :) Lots of high schoolers and kids, which is great. Cosette/Marius/Eponine were fantastic, Fantine beautiful and curvy (yea!), Val Jean had trouble modulating his volume and tone, but was nicely powerful and had broken his leg! yesterday, so I’ll cut him some slack. Javert was as wooden as wooden can be, which was distressing because I love that character. *sigh* Mrs. Evil Innkeeper was not evil enough, but oh well.
The funniest thing was they took the most ribald of the lines and gave them to a 6 year old little kid to say!! Christin and I were “OMGWTF?? ROTFL!!!” and tried not to laugh too loud, as we were totally in the front and very lit by the stage lights. (Yes, the “Hungry for a poke/Pretty girls who went to our beds” lines…) And since we knew it was coming, it was worse. :}
We then had frosties and talked about fun stuff like female-ism, feminism, fandoms, fanfic, and MarySueism. Christin agrees with me about mary sues…
Message to all fanfic practitioners and connoisseurs:
Of course it’s Mary Sue!! What do you think fanfiction IS???
(full rant on this subject coming to a computer screen near you, someday.)
Speaking of Mary Sues, be they awful, be they wonderful, this meme was too much fun to pass up—

What I’ve been working on the last two days I can’t reveal yet, because its css is buggy. (CSS!!!–I will conquer you yet!! Thou shalt not prevail!)
So instead, I shall point you towards the finely crafted writings of Miss Cleolinda Jones, who I just discovered and am loving.
First off: Troy (the movie) in 15 min. or “Hey, Mom! Odysseus wants me to go out and fight, can I can I can I? ”
– read this, you won’t need to see the movie. It’s much more entertaining than naked Brad Pitt and stuffed horses. :]
The Two Tickets — It’s about Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Go read it. Now.
The Black Ribbon– this is obviously her baby, and it is gorgeous. Victorian Gothic Horror Romance. The site is beautifully and carefully crafted to enhance the Victorian feeling. Her period mood evocation is fabulous. Love it, love love. This is also the most finely crafted of this particular *cough* sub-genre that I’ve read in a long time, so much so that I didn’t realize for while that it was even in that very classic sub-genre. :)
Make sure to click on all the little images around, most of them are links.
I have been long convinced that Jane Austen’s Persuasion is, by far and hands down, the most romantic of all of her novels. ^____^ I listened and read through it again today, and am by no means dissuaded . :)
It is sweet, reserved, controlled, as all of her novels are, but also bittersweet, effected, and touching.
I relate to, and admire, Anne.
Anne– “All the privilege I claim for my own sex (it is not a very enviable one: you need not covet it), is that of loving longest, when existence or when hope is gone!”
Captain Wentworth– “You pierce my soul. …I can hardly write. I am every instant hearing something which overpowers me.”
The Republic of Pemberly is a most delightful realm, inhabited by much delightful company and resources, including a most discriminating and excellent collection of Austenian fanfiction. ^_^ I am most diverted and amused, and have developed a strong affection and attachment to it. :)
